Palacio de Cristal
Located on the banks of the Guayas River, the historic Palacio de Cristal is an architectural masterpiece, designed and built by the engineers Francisco Manrique and Carlos Van Ischot, on behalf of Gustave Eiffel (designer of the Eiffel Tower, Paris).
Originally serving as a market, the palace is completely transparent and features a wrought iron structure. It underwent extensive renovation as part of Guayaquil’s Urban Regeneration project, and reopened in 2002 as an exhibition and culture centre, hosting artworks by such greats as Rembrandt, Picasso and Rendón Seminario.
