Hosted at the Sherbourne Conference Centre on the magical island of Barbados, this year’s awards were attended by hundreds of the travel industry leaders and thousands of audience worldwide watched the exclusive live webcast powered by Cable & Wireless.

Key industry figures including Hon Noel A. Lynch, M.P. Minister Tourism and International Transport of Barbados, Hudson Husbands, Chairman, Barbados Tourism Authority, Angela G. Goicouria, CTC, Vice President, Visa International, Frank Van Der Post, Vice President, Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts and Ian Lovelock, Worldwide Sales & Marketing Director, Etihad Airways, were in attendance.

This year was a milestone for the awards following the signing of two new media partners, Worldroom Travel TV and BBC World. The awards will be broadcasted on BBC World’s popular current affairs program, Fast Track, which enables the World Travel Awards to reach 254 million homes in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.

“This is a very exciting development. By partnering with the BBC World we can show the world why the World Travel Awards are the travel industry’s premier event�, commented Manon Han, Vice President of the World Travel Awards.

The evening was a star studded affair with lively performances from some of the biggest names from the world of music, stage and screen. Michael Imperioli, star of the Sopranos Davey Jones, a former Monkee, and Greg Proops of ‘Who’s Line Is It Anyway?’ were just some of the entertainers who enthralled the audience during the gala show.

The online voting system once again enabled the travel agents worldwide the opportunity to let the world know who they think are the WORLD’S BEST in the Travel Industry, further enhancing the value of the World Travel Awards as the professional’s choice. Over 2.5 million voting campaign email were broadcasted to over 150,000 frontline agents and 80,000 travel agencies worldwide. The voting was up by 18%, as more and more people now recognise the global significance of achieving World Travel Awards winner’s status. The winners were announced at the awards gala ceremony.

  • Travelocity, Worlds Leading Travel Internet Site

To publish and distribute the winner’s list globally, World Travel Awards announced that it will publish the inaugural issue of the Winner’s Magazine for March 2005. With an aim to become the guide to excellence in the global travel industry, the magazine will feature World Travel Awards 2004 winners and the attributes contributing to their triumph. The world’s biggest travel agency distribution will be realized by the travel trade media partners worldwide.
