Cayman Islands missed out in the sixteenth annual World Travel Awards at a ceremony at Grosvenor House, London, UK.
Ritz–Carlton had been nominated for World’s Leading Suite, but lost out to eventual winners The Monarch, Dubai, whose two–floor, 1,130 square metre, three bedroom facility includes a fitness centre, private terrace, pool, steam room and sauna.
The World Travel awards were first held in 1993 to recognise high standards in the industry and are voted for by travel agents worldwide.
In contrast to Cayman‘s slim pickings at the event, neighbours Jamaica performed well in the Worldwide awards, winning Leading Cruise Destination, Leading Family All–Inclusive Resort and Leading Villas.
Cayman also drew a blank in the Caribbean awards, with Jamaica dominating the Caribbean section by topping no less than thirteen categories.
In the local section, Ritz–Carlton picked up a gong for Cayman’s Leading Resort. The resort recently picked up the accolade as the Caribbean’s best resort in the Readers’ Choice Conde Nast Traveler survey and is a multiple AAA Five Diamond Award winner and this year also won Luxury Travel Advisor’s Best Luxury Family Resort In The World.
Exclusive dive resort Little Cayman Beach Resort came up trumps at the WTAs as Cayman’s Leading Boutique Hotel.
