The African nation of Kenya will be hosting the very first World Travel Awards (WTA) ceremony this autumn in the capital city of Nairobi. The WTA's Africa and Indian Ocean Ceremony 2012 will be taking place on 26th September, 2012 and will honour the best travel associations, businesses, airlines, hotels, resorts and beaches for tourists taking Indian Ocean, Africa and Kenya holidays.
Kenya has become one of the leading destinations for Africa holidays and travel and tourism leaders will be attending the prestigious event which will take place alongside the two-day Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF).
Graham Cooke, the President of World Travel Awards, explained: "The selection of our hosts is fundamental to the success of our awards programme, and Nairobi possesses all the ingredients to rise to the challenge of hosting our Africa and Indian Ocean Ceremony – a vibrant and progressive city, brimming with opportunity.
"Tourism is fundamental to Kenya's economy, contributing 12 percent to its GDP and creating one in ten jobs. The future is exceptionally bright given the nation's overwhelming natural resources, most notably its unrivalled collection of wildlife and its paradise beaches."
The ceremony will award the best tourism and travel brands from its extensive year-long search and will include leading Indian Ocean and Africa hotels and airlines such as South African Airways, and Beyond, Air Mauritius, Le Touessrok and Soneva Fushi Resort and Spa, plus tour companies that offer unique experience during holidays to Kenya and the rest of Africa.
Hailed as the "Oscars of the travel industry" by the global media, the World Travel Awards 2012 Grand Tour will have regional ceremonies in Dubai, Turks and Caicos, Algarve, Portugal, and Singapore.
The winners of the regional legs will go on to battle it out for the top awards at the World Travel Awards Grand Final that will take place at The Oberoi in New Delhi, India on 12 December, 2012.
