World Travel Awards Asia Australasia Gala Ceremony 2017

Drum roll please… it’s almost show time! With less than a fortnight to go before World Travel Awards arrives in Shanghai for the launch of its Grand Tour 2017, the travel industry’s leading awards programme is delighted to unveil the latest details of its Asia & Australasia event.

Justin Gu - a hugely experienced host and presenter – has been announced as the compere of the upcoming Gala Ceremony, which will take place in China’s commercial capital at the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai on Sunday 4th June 2017.

The event will also showcase some of China’s finest traditions including kirin – a celebration, through song, of the mythical animals of Kylin who promote peace and prosperity – and performances such as Su San danced with moonlight.

The latter takes inspiration from the Peking Opera, a complicated Chinese stage art that combines performances, acrobatics, gongs, drums, facial paintings, music and more, and is sure to elate.

A horse racing ceremony, deriving from the prairies of China and featuring galloping horses, music and drums as well as beautifully dressed performers, completes the dazzling line up of performances.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there…. World Travel Awards is also inviting delegates to explore Shanghai – the city that everyone is talking about - by joining a complimentary sightseeing tour.

Visit famous Shanghai attractions such as the Yu Garden, the Old City Town, Jade Buddha Temple and Tian Zi Fang area. In addition, all tour participants will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and a cruise along the Huang Pu River Cruise.

The tour, designed specifically for registered WTA delegates and media, will depart from the Grand Hotel Kempinski Shanghai at 9am on Sunday 4th June and return at approximately 2.30pm. For the full low-down, visit: www.worldtravelawards.com/event/asia-and-australasia-2017/itinerary

Speaking ahead of World Travel Awards’ Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony 2017, WTA President and Founder Graham Cooke said: “It will be a pleasure to return to Shanghai for the first time since the inaugural World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony in 2008.

“As you would expect, it will be an evening to remember and I can’t wait to share it with all of our nominees at the Grand Kempinski Shanghai.”
