The Raleigh expedition country saw off the likes of Bali, Korea and Sri Lanka to win Asia's Leading Destination. Incredible India! won the tourist board title and Air India took best economy airline.
Graham E Cooke, president and founder of the awards said: "Asia is powering the global travel and tourism recovery, and the winners represent the very cream of our industry.
"The burgeoning middle classes in markets such as India, China and Malaysia are fuelling a surge in intra-Asia travel. We expect this growth to continue for at least the next decade."
The World Travel Awards were set up 18 years ago to recognise good customer service and stimulate innovation and creativity in all aspects of travel and tourism.
