India and Indian brands dominated several categories at the World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia held at Bangkok's Dusit Thani Hotel on Thursday.

The country pipped Bali, Korea and Sri Lanka to win Asia's Leading Destination.

Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur was awarded Asia's Leading City Destination.

Among other award highlights:
Airlines/Airports

Malaysia Airlines beat Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines and others to win Asia's Leading Airline.

Cathay Pacific was awarded Asia's Leading Airline Business Class, Air India snagged Asia's Leading Economy Class and Korean Air won Asia's Leading Airline First Class.

The Asia's Leading Airport award went to Singapore's Changi Airport.

Hotels, resorts and casinos

Dusit Thani Bangkok was voted Asia's Leading City Hotel, Banyan Tree Bangkok snagged the Asia's Leading City Spa Hotel award and Asia's Leading Golf Resort went to Mission Hills Resort, China.

Asia's Leading Hotel Brand went to The Peninsula Hotels and Asia's Leading Luxury Hotel Brand was awarded to the Mandarin Oriental. The St. Regis Bali Resort won Asia's Leading Luxury Resort.

Asia's Leading Business Hotel Brand went to Swissotel and Asia's Leading Business Hotel to Pan Pacific Singapore.

Asia's Leading Boutique Hotel was awarded to Lanson Place Hotel, Hong Kong.

Asia's Leading Green Hotel award went to the Sheraton Incheon Hotel while India's Orange County Resorts won the Asia's Responsible Tourism prize.

As for Asia's Leading Casino Resort, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore beat out Macau heavyweights Galaxy, Grand Lisboa Hotel, MGM, StarWorld, The Venetian and Wynn as well as Malaysia's Resorts World Gentin and Sharaton Grande Walkerhill South Korea.
Indian domination

As well as India taking the Asia’s Leading Destination gong, other Indian brands fared well.

The country's Trident Gurgaon was voted Asia’s Leading Hotel, while the new super luxury hotel Oberoi Gurgaon collected Asia’s Leading Luxury Hotel. The Indian Maharaja was voted Asia's Leading Luxury Train and the Maharajah's Pavilion at The Raj Palace voted Asia's Leading Suite.
Australiasia

Among the big Australasia winners were Air New Zealand, which was voted Australasia’s Leading Airline, and Bora Bora, French Polynesia, named Australasia’s Leading Destination. Sheraton on the Park, Sydney, picked up Australasia’s Leading Hotel.

About the awards

The Asia & Australasia Ceremony is the fourth leg of the World Travel Awards 2011 Grand Tour, and follows ceremonies in Dubai, UAE; Antalya, Turkey; and Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Montego Bay, Jamaica will host the final heat on October 19. The regional winners will then progress to the Grand Final, held at the end of the year.

The awards are based on votes cast by travel professionals, which include travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organizations in over 160 countries across the globe.
