FOUR local hotels scooped awards at the World Travel Awards held on Wednesday in Bangkok, Thailand.

Taveuni Palms, which won the "Australasia Leading Boutique Resort" for the second year in a row was also awarded "Fiji's leading resort".

According to a statement from the resort, they competed against some of the best and finest resorts and hotels in Australia, New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Fiji.

"The World Travel Awards are considered the "Oscars" of the worldwide travel and tourism industries," the statement said.

The owners and general managers of the resort, Tony and Kelly Ackland were of course delighted with the awards.

"We are honoured to be recognised again by such a prestigious organisation," they said in their statement.

"Our dream has always been to create an exclusive destination like nowhere else on earth.

"Our incredible staff at Taveuni Palms is dedicated to providing our guests with an exceptional experience. It is this commitment that has enabled us to win these awards."

To celebrate the win, the resort is offering a package "Your Wedding, With Compliments" for 2012.

The other winners at the awards were ù Jean-Michel Couteau (Australasia's leading green hotel); the Wakaya Club & Spa (Fiji's leading golf resort); the Westin Denarau Island Resort and Spa (Fiji's leading spa resort). Flight Centre is the Australasian region's leading flight agency.
