WTA announces regional Americas winners

The World Travel Awards (WTA) has just held its regional award evening for the Americas chapter last Monday evening in New York, where more than 20 trophies were given out to top performing travel industry representatives.

More than 250 top level industry delegates attended the evening, from all corners of the Americas, from North to South and of course, Central, representing well-known industry brands like InterContinental, Hilton, Jumeirah, American Airlines and Eurocar.

“We expanded the World Travel Awards scheme to the Americas with our Grand Tour, and we have been extremely well received in New York this year,” said Graham Cooke, President and Founder of the World Travel Awards.

This is the first time in 14 years that the World Travel Awards has held regional awards prior to the announcement of global winners.

“The response from award winners who attended the event has already been very positive,” Mr Cooke continues. “We now look forward to the other regional events and the global awards in the Turks & Caicos.”

Top honours went out to Delta Airlines for “North America’s Leading Business Class Airline”; Hilton Hotels for “South America’s Leading Hotel Brand”; Mexico City (MEX) for “Central America’s Leading Airport”; and Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Canada for “North America’s Leading Ski Resort”.

The presentation night was a star-studded event which not only featured the award ceremonies but also music, comedy routines, and other entertainment. This year the event was hosted by Actress Lauren Holly from movies such as What Women Want and Dumb & Dumber, alongside television presenter Todd Newton.

“I can imagine no better place for an event honouring excellence in the travel industry than right here in our City, which welcomed nearly 44 million visitors last year,” said New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“In New York City, we are committed to setting ambitious goals and finding innovative ways to reach them – two qualities that the World Travel Awards also value,” he adds.
