The Leela Palace Kempinski Bangalore has been selected to host the first ever World Travel Awards (WTA) Australasia & Indian Ocean awards ceremony. The event will take place on November 2 at the five-star property, which is renowned for its magnificent design, standing amid nine acres of lush green gardens and a sparkling azure lagoon in the city of Bangalore.
"We are delighted to bring the World Travel Awards event to India, one of the most exciting emerging markets in the world. Bangalore as a gateway to India and one of the country's hubs is certainly an ideal place for our inaugural Asia, Australasia & Indian Ocean awards ceremony," said WTA vice president Manon Han. "Moreover, the grandeur of The Leela Palace Kempinski Bangalore creates a perfect setting for WTAs high-profile event."
WTAs' voters have 266 categories and 1739 nominations from which to choose across Asia, Australasia and the Indian Ocean, and nine categories and 64 nominations in India. The WTAs were conceived in 1993 to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in the world's travel and tourism industry.
For the first time in 2007, the World Travel Awards cover the various country and regional level awards by recognising award winners in their own territory. The inaugural ceremony took place in Abu Dhabi in May with chosen locations for this year's world tour also including New York in the USA, Newcastle Gateshead in North East England, and the Turks & Caicos Islands in the Caribbean for the grand final.
