A far north Queensland resort has won a major international tourism award.

The Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa was named the world's leading eco lodge at the World Travel Awards in London overnight.

Doug Ryan from Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree says it will boost the area's profile internationally as a tourism destination.

"Any significant recognition worldwide is going to help," he said.

"The Daintree is a popular spot, particularly for the environmental-style people.

"The Germans, the Europeans, the UK, and I think any marketing or advertising or recognition in those regions is a plus for the whole area."
