A top Sri Lankan hotel group and several hotels won recognition at the World Travel Awards 2009 in London based on votes by travel agents worldwide. The Taj Samudra Colombo was named Sri Lanka's leading hotel and another group hotel, Taj Exotica in southern Bentota was named Sri Lanka's leading resort.

The Lighthouse Hotel & Spa on the south-west coast was named Sri Lanka's leading boutique hotel, while the Jetwing group's Ayurveda Pavilions, in Negombo, north of Colombo, was named Sri Lanka's top spa resort.

Sri Lanka's leading business hotel was the Hilton Colombo.

Adaaran Prestige Water Villas, Maldives, managed by Sri Lanka's Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings, was named the Maldives' leading water villas among the Indian Ocean winners at World Travel Awards 2009.

The Adaaran Prestige Resorts were recognised as the Indian Ocean's leading water villa group.

Adaaran Resorts, part of the Colombo-based diversified conglomerate Aitken Spence, manage and operates seven properties in the Maldives.
