Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort was recently named “Fiji’s Leading Resort” at the 2009 World Travel Awards in London earlier this week.

“We are honored by the continued recognition from our colleagues in the travel industry for the guest experience we provide,” says Greg Taylor, General Manager. “This is the third World Travel Award for ‘Fiji’s Leading Resort’ we have received in four years, indicating our staff’s enduring reputation for excellence.”

Last year, the award-winning resort was designated “Fiji’s Leading Resort” and recognized as the first-ever “Australasia’s Leading Green Hotel.” Among its other awards, the resort earned a 2007 “Global Sustainable Tourism Award” by ISLANDS Magazine and ranked first on TripAdvisor’s 2007 “Top 10 Environmentally-Friendly Destinations” list worldwide.

Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort overlooks the pristine waters of Savusavu Bay on the island of Vanua Levu with secluded coastline, barrier reefs and exotic marine life. This socially and environmentally responsible resort offers an authentic Fijian experience, combining culture, well-being, local environment, relaxation and exceptional cuisine.

Designed in an environmentally friendly style, the 25 individual one- and two-bedroom bures (Fijian thatched-roof bungalows) are scattered among palm trees on a former 17-acre coconut plantation. The resort’s chefs prepare menus that blend contemporary Fijian, South Pacific and international cuisine that is complemented by fine wines.

Resort activities include swimming pools, kayaking, catamaran sailing, daily yoga, tennis, boat tours, reef flat walks, organic garden tours, spa treatments and a traditional Kava ceremony. A cultural host leads adventures ranging from the traditional Fijian medicine walk, rainforest and waterfall hikes, mangrove tours to visits to a local Fijian village.

Jean-Michel Cousteau established a top dive operation which is dedicated to preserving the delicate reefs and their inhabitants. The resort features world-class diving, snorkeling, informative tide pool walks and a giant clam restoration project.
