The second of these centres, with a planned capacity in its own right of up to 2,000 seats, is anticipated to be located in the Southern Suburbs area coming on stream initially in 2011.

"We have chosen to further expand our facilities in South Africa as in our opinion it has the potential to become one of the fastest growing BPO destinations" says Jeff Smith, CEO and Chairman of Teleperformance UK. "There is a real pool of talent that fits extremely well with our business needs in terms of both skill and culture. South African's have a justifiable reputation for their strong empathy with UK callers and for their excellent customer service skills."

Deputy Mayor of the City of Cape Town, Cllr Ian Neilson, who is in London to help facilitate the deal said he "welcomed this as it signalled investor confidence in Cape Town." He also stated "Cape Town needs more investment like this and the City will do whatever it can to enable inward investment that will lead to more job creation for Cape Town's residents."

Speaking from London, Mansoor Mohamed, the Executive Director for Economic, Social Development and Tourism said "The City of Cape Town has a strategy of infrastructure led economic growth and development. The objective of this strategy is to make Cape Town a globally competitive business and leisure destination, which will attract further investment and grow the economy."

Cape Town has excellent capabilities in the call centre industry, including competitive real estate prices and a good choice of human resources. Cape Town has been named Africa's Leading Destination for two consecutive years by the World Travel Awards. The City of Cape Town is installing a mass public transport system, a municipal broadband fibre optic network and it will be one of the host cities for the Fifa 2010 World Cup.
