Cape Town’s most iconic landmark is once again competing on the world stage, and this time the public has the power to decide whether Table Mountain adds another international achievement to its long list of accolades, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Table Mountain has been nominated for the 2026 World Travel Awards, with the famous attraction competing in two major categories: World’s Leading Cable Car Ride and World’s Leading Tourist Attraction.

The team behind the mountain shared the exciting news with visitors and locals, calling on Capetonians and South Africans to help push the city’s natural wonder towards another global win.

Known for its dramatic views, unique landscape and unmistakable presence above Cape Town, Table Mountain has become more than just a tourist destination, it is a symbol of the city itself.

The landmark has long attracted visitors from around the world, offering panoramic views stretching across the Atlantic Ocean, city bowl and surrounding coastline. For many travellers, a trip to Cape Town is not complete without experiencing the journey to the summit.

Table Mountain’s global reputation was strengthened after it was named one of the New7Wonders of Nature, placing it alongside some of the planet’s most recognised natural landmarks.

The mountain has also enjoyed success at the World Travel Awards over the years, previously winning the regional title of Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction five times, with its most recent victory coming in 2022, and its latest nomination coming last year.

This year’s competition, however, is different because the final result depends entirely on public support. Every vote counts, meaning local enthusiasm could be the deciding factor as Table Mountain faces competition from other world-famous destinations.

The voting period closes on 17 July 2026, giving South Africans a limited window to show their support and help secure another moment of recognition for Cape Town.
