Independent Online: Table Mountain nominated for Africa's Leading Tourist Attraction at World Travel Awards

Table Mountain has once again been nominated as Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards, placing one of South Africa’s most recognisable landmarks back in the international spotlight.

Often described as the travel industry's equivalent of the Oscars, the awards recognise excellence across global tourism and hospitality.

The nomination adds to Table Mountain's impressive track record, having previously claimed the title five times: in 2014, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The site, part of Table Mountain National Park, is also recognised as one of the New7Wonders of Nature.

Wahida Parket, managing director of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, expressed that the nomination reflects both national pride and the mountain’s global appeal.

“This nomination is a proud moment for Cape Town and South Africa as a whole,” she said.

“Table Mountain is more than a landmark; it is a symbol of our natural heritage and a world-class attraction that continues to inspire visitors from across the globe.”

The latest nomination comes at a time when global competition between destinations is intensifying, with international recognition playing a growing role in attracting visitors to the city of Cape Town. 

A win would further strengthen Cape Town’s position as a leading tourism destination, with Table Mountain at the centre of its appeal.

With winners decided by public vote, organisers have called on South Africans and international travellers to support the nomination.

To vote, supporters can visit  www.worldtravelawards.com/vote, select the Africa region, and choose Table Mountain as Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction.

Voting for the 2026 edition opened on March 30 and runs until July 17.
