GMA Network: Philippines wins big at the 2024 World Travel Awards

The Philippines also hosted this year's World Travel Awards.

The Philippines continues to prove its excellence in the travel and tourism industry as it clinched eight awards at this year's World Travel Awards.

The country won Asia's Leading Dive Destination anew, marking the sixth consecutive year the Philippines bagged the award since 2019.

At the same time, the country was hailed as Asia's Leading Beach Destination and Asia's Leading Island Destination.

The walled city of Intramuros was recognized as Asia's Leading Tourist Attraction, Boracay as Asia's Leading Luxury Island Destination, and Cebu as Asia's Leading Wedding Destination.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) also received the Asia's Leading Marketing Campaign 2024 award for the "Love the Philippines" campaign.

Tourism chief Christina Garcia Frasco, meanwhile, was given a special award for her "transformational leadership in tourism."

"We are determined to expanding tourism opportunities further by focusing on quality and sustainable tourism, ensuring that every visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our nation," Frasco was quoted as saying.

The Philippines hosted the Asia and Oceania gala ceremony of the World Travel Awards for the first time this year. The ceremony was held at the City of Dreams on September 3.
