Table Mountain calls for your vote for Africa’s leading tourist attraction

6 April 2023 - Cape Town etc

Are you ready to help Table Mountain bring home the trophy for Africa’s leading tourist attraction? The World Travel Awards has opened up voting for this epic contest, and Table Mountain needs your support to win.

The competition is tough, with big names such as Robben Island and the V&A Waterfront joining Table Mountain in a race against the Pyramids of Giza and Mount Kilimanjaro, among others.

Table Mountain has already won the title of Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction five times since the category started in 2012. And for the past four years, has been the reigning champion.

Wahida Parker, managing director of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC), says: ‘It would be great to make it five in a row and take the overall lead.’

However, the team at TMACC believes that a win for any one of the local attractions is a win for all.

Winning at the World Travel Awards means more than just taking home a trophy. It’s an important benchmark for the travel and tourism industry, and it shows that Table Mountain is on the right track.

As tourist destinations and operators, everyone is doing their best to bounce back after the pandemic, finding ways to do more and offer more while protecting the planet.

Table Mountain is a proud South African landmark and one of the new 7 Wonders of the Nature. Winning this trophy would show that the public appreciates the work done to protect the environment of the mountain.

‘Our thinking is that we would be delighted if we bring the trophy back home with Robben island or the V&A taking the title,’ says Parker.

TMACC needs the public and the tourism sector to support them and vote. Public voting closes on 30 April. The World Travel Awards is the gold standard in the travel world, acknowledging service excellence and responsible operators each year. The winners for the Africa categories will be confirmed in Kenya on 14 June.

The Leading Tourist Attraction in Africa category has nominations for Hartebeespoort Aerial Cableway, Lake Malawi, Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania, the Okavango Delta in Botswana, the Pyramids of Giza, Robben Island, Table Mountain, and the V&A Waterfront.
