Vilamoura’s The Lake Spa Resort reopens as Domes Lake Algarve after €7 million upgrade

The Lake Spa Resort in Vilamoura – which in 2021 was named Europe’s Leading Luxury Lifestyle Resort at the World Travel Awards – has been rebranded and will reopen as Domes Lake Algarve on April 9 with a special Easter programme “focused on families.”

The hotel will be managed by Greek hotel group Domes Resorts, self-described as “one of the fastest growing luxury hotel brands in the Mediterranean.”

It is reopening after a €7 million upgrade carried out by owner Hotel Investment Partners (HIP), which announced last year the investment would “transform the property with a complete refurbishment of all rooms and common areas, and a rebranding of all Food & Beverage Outlets.”

“Additionally, a new adults-only pool will be created, along with the addition of a pool bar for the new adults-only pool area, and finally, a total reconceptualization of the gastronomic map with signature Domes dining concepts,” it added.

“This iconic luxury hotel with 192 rooms and suites, which is now part of the portfolio of luxury hotels of Greek group Domes Resorts, presents itself with a clear Mediterranean inspiration, with interiors that allude to the surrounding eco-protected landscape, whose fresh colours reflect the property’s gardens, pools and lake,” Domes Resorts said in a statement.

The Domes Lake Algarve will also provide a “hotel-within-a-hotel” experience for “more demanding travellers who seek space, privacy and a deeper connection to nature, with tranquillity and an active local experience.”

“With its exclusive saltwater lake and private access to Praia da Falésia beach, four scintillating pools, a 1.2km deck, and observation pergolas, Domes Lake Algarve is the ideal scenario to relax in a tranquil environment and enjoy to the fullest what the region has to offer, like the capture of clams and oysters, bird watching, sailing or wine tasting,” the group’s statement reads.

Domes Lake Algarve will also feature Soma Spa, which combines ancient Greek methods and contemporary healing techniques with result-oriented products from ELEMIS and Godage Paris.

There are also “eco-conscious” activities planned for children, who will be able to learn to plant their own flowers and plants in an “interactive and educational experience.”

The hotel’s gastronomic selection is also highlighted. Topos, a restaurant with Neo-Greek inspiration, is described as ideal for those looking to enjoy fresh seafood or a cocktail at the hotel’s lake, while a 12-dish menu featuring fresh and seasonal products can be discovered at Makris On The Lake and paired with a selection of Portuguese wines.

To celebrate its opening and the Easter season, Domes Lake Algarve has announced a special programme geared towards families which will offer free accommodation for children aged 12 and under – for stays of at least three nights.

Guests will be welcomed with a toast and will have a “delicious surprise” waiting for them at their room.
