Castanet: Rocky Mountaineer named World's Leading Luxury Train for 2020

B.C.'s Rocky Mountaineer has another accolade to add to its awards cabinet.

The company, which has a significant footprint in Kamloops, has been named the World's Leading Luxury Train for 2020 by the World Travel Awards. While it hasn't operated this year, it beat out 11 other luxury tourism train based around the world, including the Royal Canadian Pacific (which also travels the Rockies), The Blue Train (through South Africa) and Deccan Odyssey (which travels India).

It was the only train award from the international tourism awards ceremony this year.

It's not the first World Travel Award for the train, it's won the World's Leading Travel Experience By Train seven times (the award has been discontinued) and took Luxury Travel Product of the Year in 2010.

There was another local winner, the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association was given North America's Responsible Tourism Award.
