Cape Town etc: Vote for Cape Town to win big at the World Travel Awards

14 August 2020 - Cape Town etc

The Mother City is no stranger to honour. In 2020 alone, it was named the country’s most financially sustainable metro, ranked on a list of the world’s most popular destinations to visit post-lockdown, and won the title of Africa’s leading art capital for its readily available artistic experiences.

A host of new and exciting titles are up for grabs as Cape Town is nominated in a number of categories at the World Travel Awards (Africa region). The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Today, it is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.

Cape Town is nominated in the following categories:

– Africa’s Leading City Destination

– Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination

– Africa’s Leading Beach Destination

– Africa’s Leading Cruise Port

– Africa’s Leading Festival & Event Destination (current and three time winner)

– Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination

If Cape Town wins in any of these categories, the Mother City will be crowned champion and will be in the running for the global awards.

The Africa award ceremony will be held in Nairobi in October 2020 while the global finale will be held in Moscow in November 2020.

“I am delighted that our beautiful city has been nominated for the World Travel Awards in numerous and diverse categories. This is not by chance. Much hard work has gone into ensuring that our City is top of mind as a destination of choice, no matter what you are looking for,” said Alderman James Vos, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management.

“My team in the Enterprise and Investment Department and I are hard at work on a six pillar strategy and that will position Cape Town as the premier destination in which to live, play, work, study, visit or invest. I am confident that together with the City of Cape Town’s official Destination Marketing Organisation, Cape Town Tourism, the tourism bounce back strategy we have developed can ensure that we breathe life back into the industry and plot a sustainable and inclusive future for this vital and vibrant sector.”
