Cape Town nominated as Africa’s Leading City Destination

What has Cape Town been nominated for?

This year, the City of Cape Town was entered into three awards:

  • Table Mountain Cableway in the category of Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction
  • Cape Town International Airport as the leading airport
  • The City of Cape Town as Africa’s Leading Festival and Event Destination.

That means that the airport, the City of Cape Town and Table Mountain Cableway needs our support. Voting opened on Thursday 12 September and will close on Sunday 20 October 2019.

The Cape Town International Airport will be going up against the Cairo International Airport in Egypt, O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, the Mohammed V International Airport in Morocco and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya.

How to vote for Cape Town in the World Travel Awards

Simply register and create an account on World Travel Awards. Once your account is active, you’d be able to select “Region” from the menu on the left.

The first award will be presented for voting and nominees are listed alphabetically within the award. To vote for a nominee, click on the radio button to the left of the nominee name.

Your vote will be logged and the next award will appear. You can also choose the “Skip This Award” option if you want to skip a particular category.

To vote for a specific award, select the award from the list under “Next Awards”. You can amend your votes while the voting process is open: Simply go to “My Votes” or “Skipped Awards”.

World Travel Awards – What you need to know

The World Travel Awards was established 26 years ago, in 1993. It serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.

Every year, an international jury of hospitality experts and peers from the World Travel and Tourism Council convenes to decide on the various awards presented to hotels and other hospitality companies.

Awards are handed out on a world level and international region level across a wide range of categories including the hotel, airline, travel agency and car-hire sectors.

  • Sawubona as Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine
  • Mango and Kulula as Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Airlines
  • Port Elizabeth as Africa’s Leading Cruise Port
  • Plettenberg Bay as Africa’s Leading Beach Destination
  • Johannesburg as Africa’s Leading City Destination
  • Kruger National Park as Africa’s Leading National Park.
