A wellness weekend on an island in the Maldives is high on the bucket list. It is the kind of adventure to have at least once in this lifetime. The Maldives can be a honeymoon destination or romantic getaway for couples. This tropical paradise on the Indian Ocean may also be discovered with the company of family and friends. For the solo traveler, it is an ideal place to fully unwind. Regardless of whether you are flying in with a party of one, two or a dozen, there a wellness sojourn to this idyllic destination will reinvigorate mind, body and soul.

At Baros Maldives, wellness is a large part of the island experience. White sandy beaches, turquoise waters and poster-perfect horizons provide respite from stress and pressure from day-to-day living. Well appointed villas are configured not only for luxury but to be a private haven for undisturbed slumber. At sunrise or just before the last rays of the sun kiss the ocean, private lounge decks are a place for silence and stillness.

The resort’s full service spa, Serenity, is a destination in itself. The wellness facility, located amidst lush greens offers over 30 treatments, each designed to restore balance, calm and energy. Ceremonies or rituals done at Serenity are inspired by Asian and African healing traditions. Most last between 120-150 minutes and use ingredients directly sourced from mother nature. The Submerge Your Sense Elemis Ritual, for instance, begins with a soothing bath. The body is then hydrated with a refreshing serving of fresh juice and roasted coconut. Post snack, the body is brushed to help boost immunity while calming the mind. A 90-minute intuitive massage by a highly skilled therapist closes the ritual leaving the mind, body and soul realigned and awakened.

African inspired massages are also a novelty to immerse in while at Baros’ Serenity Spa. A TheraNaka East Africa Wood Massage follows African dance movements and acupressure in using wood for kneading the body. Use of shea butter and warm olive help to bring back moisture to dry skin. There is also option to customize your spa experience during your entire stay. Each day, guests can select at least three treatments. It can begin the the mornings with a 30-minute rejuvenating Salt Glow treatment, followed by a 60-minute Jet Lag Massage midday. By dark, unwind with a 30-minute relaxing bath.
