Travel Market Report: Cozumel success at World Travel Awards

19 September 2018 - Travel Market Report

The Mexican Caribbean resort destination, known for its scuba diving and snorkeling, was recognized for its beauty and tourist attractions.

This is the 25th edition of the awards, which rank destinations, hotels, tour operators, parks, airlines, car rental companies and cruises. The winners are chosen by industry professionals who evaluate the nominees for their infrastructure, quality of services, innovation in experiences, and number of visitors.

Also referred to as “The Island of the Swallows” for its landscape and wildlife, Cozumel is best known for having the second-largest barrier reef in the world, making it ideal for diving and snorkeling, as well as being a popular port of call for many cruise lines.

Cozumel is part of the state of Quintana Roo, which also includes popular beach destinations like Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Playa del Carmen, as well as off-the-beaten-path spots like Tulum, Isla Mujeres, and Holbox. A number of these destinations were also nominated by the World Travel Awards in several categories, including Cancun for “Leading Destination of Mexico and Central America 2018.” Under the best all-inclusive resort category for Mexico and Central America, nominations were also given to the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, Hyatt Zilara and Ziva Cancun, and Occidental Cozumel.
