Food for Thought: Ireland Wins Big at 25th Annual World Travel Awards

The Convention Centre Dublin was named Europe's Leading Meetings & Conference Centre, the Jameson Distillery Bow St took home Europe's Leading Distillery Tour, Datalex was named Europe's Leading Travel Merchandising Solution Provider and the Sandymount Hotel was recognised as Europe's Leading Green Hotel.

Established to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry, the World Travel Awards are recognised globally as a hallmark of quality with hundreds of members of the European travel industry attending the ceremony each year.

Paul Kelly, CEO of Fáilte Ireland, said: “I’d like to congratulate The Convention Centre Dublin, the Jameson Distillery Bow St, Datalex and the Sandymount Hotel for their recent wins at the World Travel Awards. Tourism supports 235,000 jobs and generates exchequer revenue of €1.7bn which is the equivalent of €1,000 for every household in Ireland. As the national tourism development authority, Fáilte Ireland continues to work with tourism businesses across the country to create a vibrant, attractive tourism sector.”

A number of travel businesses were also recognised in the regional Ireland awards, including Adare Manor which was named Ireland's Leading Hotel, the Conrad Dublin which was named Ireland's Leading Luxury Hotel, Dromoland Castle which was named Ireland's Leading Boutique Hotel and The Shelbourne which was named Ireland's Leading Business Hotel.
