The Bahamas is in the running for another prestigious travel award – the 2012 World Travel Award for Best Cruise Destination.

World Travel Awards organizers announced the distinguished nominees for the awards, which will be held at the Grand Final Gala ceremony in Delhi on December 12. Others nominated in the same category are Copenhagen, Dubai, Istanbul and Izmir and Port of Kusadasi in Turkey, Jamaica, Lisbon, Maldives, Miami, Shanghai, Stockholm and Sydney, Austalia.

The Bahamas has already captured three awards from the organization – the Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Port for 2008, the Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Destination for 2004 and the Caribbean’s Leading Tourist and Convention Bureau for 2002. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism accepts the awards on behalf of the industry. In addition, the country’s tourism product has been nominated annually for the World Travel Awards in a host of categories since 2005.

The WTA is the biggest, most comprehensive and most prestigious awards program in the travel industry worldwide. It supports, promotes and develops the global travel and tourism industry by identifying and rewarding excellence and inspiring its practitioners to continually raise the standards of their product and service offerings.
