The inaugural World Ski Awards will be handed out next year in the Austrian resort of Kitzbuhel. This year the World Snow Awards took place in London. The industry has waited for an awards ceremony for years and now two come along at once!
It is a bit like the proverbial London bus service.
This year at the London Ski & Snowboard Show we saw the World Snow Awards - PlanetSKI was involved in the judging and we reported on it here.
Now the World Travel Awards is launching a new programme to acknowledge the finest brands in the global ski industry.
The inaugural World Ski Awards will take place at the Grand SPA Resort A-ROSA Kitzbühel, Austria on 16th November 2013.
It is though more about travel and hotels than the actual sport of skiing & snowboarding and it has an international focus rather than a UK one.
The London event had many categories including best ski and snowbaord, best clothing manufacturer, best shop and a range of resort categories. The Kitzbuhel event is handing out awards in just five categories: best ski resort, hotel, chalet/lodge, inbound operator and boutique hotel.
"World Ski Awards will serve as the definitive awards programme to reward and celebrate the elite of the wintersports industry. The gala ceremony in Kitzbühel will bring together the leading players and provide a unique forum for exchanging ideas and top-level networking," said the director of the World Ski Awards, Sion Rapson.
The voting process begins in March 2013 when ski organisations across the world will be announced for the programme.
Votes will be made by professionals working within the ski industry: senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators and agents.
Votes can also be cast by the public.
The voting works on a first-past-the-post system to ensure impartiality and independence.
With two major snowsports industry awards ceremonies, a number of online ones run by web sites and various prizes given out by ski organisations we may soon be able to have an awards ceremony for the best awards ceremony.
