Colombo, 04 October, (Asiantribune.com): This year post war booming Sri Lanka that expects to hit a 2.5 million tourist arrivals by 2016, will go head to head with Bali, India, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam for the coveted title of “Asia’s Leading Destination” at the World Travel Awards to be held in Singapore on October 18, 2012.

As at end of August this year in 2012 Sri Lanka recorded a 15.8% increase year on year totaling to 622,661 compared to 537,787 tourist arrivals as at August 2011, Further travelers from North America rose from 33,430 to 39,379 by 17.8% and travelers from Western Europe rose from 207,596 to 246,842 by 18.9%. Travelers to Sri Lanka from Eastern Europe had risen from 25,850 to 38,366 by 48.4%.

However, the Middle East travelers to Sri Lanka had decreased from 35,731 to 34,545 by a 3.3% whilst East Asian travelers had increased by a 32% from 59,677 to 78,781.African tourist to Sri Lanka as at August had topped from 2,116 to 2,656 by a 25.5% and tourist from Australasia has risen by a 18.2% from 26,393 to 31,196. Meanwhile travelers from South Asian countries such as India, Maldives and Pakistan rose by 2.4% from 146,349 to 149,899 as at August 2012.

Said to be the most successful travel brands in Asia, Australasia, and the Indian Ocean are set to be acknowledged at a red-carpet ceremony hosted by World Travel Awards (WTA) at Singapore whilst several titled awards will be presented under various categories such as “Asia’s Leading New Hotel”, “Asia’s Leading Resort Brand” and “India Ocean’s Leading Destination.”

The leading travel decision-makers around the Asian Region are scheduled to attend the event which is being held in partnership with TravelRave, Asia’s most influential travel trade festival.

The event will take place at the InterContinental Singapore, that includes a gala dinner, top entertainment, as well as the presentation of the coveted awards.

According to WTA organizers this time it is hosting its first ever ceremony in Singapore which is called to be that one of the most dynamic destinations in the world.

WTA’s Asia, Australasia & Indian Ocean Ceremony 2012 to be held on October 2012 marks the final regional leg of WTA’s Grand Tour, a global search for the world’s leading travel brands, which also includes regional rounds in Dubai, Singapore, Turks & Caicos, and Portugal. The winners of these regions will then go head-to-head at WTA’s Grand Final, which takes place at The Oberoi, Gurgaon, New Delhi, India, on 12th December 2012.

Other key events taking place under the TravelRave umbrella include ITB Asia, Asia Travel Leaders Summit, Web In Travel, Tourism Destination Investment Conference Asia, Hotel Technology Conference, Aviation Outlook Asia, and the Singapore Experience Awards.
