Tourism heavyweights from across the Caribbean, North and South America jetted into Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands last weekend for the World Travel Awards (WTA), the industry's most prestigious travel honours. Feted in fine style at the magnificent Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort Villages and Spa property, the black-tie WTA affair was a glitzy do with the ladies all dressed to the nines and men suited in classic tuxedos. Fifty trophies were presented throughout the course of the near four-hour ceremony, with Sandals Resorts International's properties claiming the majority - 15 in total. Jamaica also came out ahead of the islands in the region, copping eight awards for a mix of The Rock's hotels including Jamaica Inn, Rockhouse Hotel, Round Hill Hotel & Villas and Spanish Court Hotel. SO shares WTA highlights.
