The World Travel Awards have nominated Lima and Machu Picchu as one of South America’s leading destinations.
The two Peruvian cities were nominated alongside Bahia (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Santiago and Easter Island (Chile), Galapagos (Ecuador), Sao Paulo, Bahia and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
Machu Picchu was also nominated for the South America’s Leading Green Destination award, and the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Hotel, was nominated as one of South America’s leading green hotels.
Peru was also nominated as one of South America’s leading culinary destinations, and Lima’s Jorge Chavez Airport was nominated for an award for South America’s leading airport.
Voting is open until August 24, when winners from South America, Europe, Asia and Africa will be announced.
Last year Peru won awards in the leading airport, green destination, and tourist board, categories.
