WHAT does Roseberry Topping have in common with the Taj Mahal, the Rialto Bridge and Antarctica?

Alongside some of the most famous places on the planet, the hill on the outskirts of the Esk Valley, has been named in the top 10 most romantic places in the world to propose.

The landmark in the North York Moors National Park came sixth in the poll, carried out by the World Travel Awards, and beat off other locations such as the Sahara Desert in Morocco and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The fact that Yorkshire has made another top ten list is outstanding.

“It is not surprising Roseberry Topping is in the top 10 most romantic places to propose with its stunning views overlooking North Yorkshire.

“We are very fortunate to have such stunning landscapes in our county, so celebrating them in this way is fantastic.”

Catriona McLees, from North York Moors National Park Authority, added there had been an increase in calls and hits on the website since the list was published and they were expecting an extra influx of visitors as a result.
