Mauritius has been nominated the “World’s Leading Island Destination” in the context of the World Travel Awards 2011, confirming its global brand reputation as being Mauritius it’s a Pleasure.

The award ceremony was held in Qatar on 11th January 2012 and the Chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, Mr. Robert Desvaux represented Mauritius.

"I am indeed greatly honored and fortunate to represent my country in this award ceremony.

This Award is a recognition of not only the natural beauty of the island but also the legendary hospitality of the population, the hard work and the sustained commitment to improve the industry.

May I in the same breath thank the World Travel Awards Organizers and the voters across the globe for selecting Mauritius as the World’s Leading Island Destination, thus affirming their appreciation for our global brand, Mauritius it’s a Pleasure.

The brand attributes of the island testify to that: the security, safety, stability and peaceful social atmosphere prevailing on the island, the warm hospitality, authenticity and welcome of its rich and culturally diverse population, the remarkable sense of entrepreneurship and resilience of its workforce, the world class quality of its hotels, the wide variety of product offers and the excellent service levels available, the natural landscapes, and above all, the life-affirming values that drive the country and the industry – values inspired from our historical and cultural heritage, all woven into the fabric of the daily lives of our people.

These values are inscribed in the Code of Ethics for the Tourism Industry of Mauritius, which serves as a moral building block to a sustainable development.

The Awards also come to recognize the efforts being made by the country to go green and to progressively adopt renewable energies, giving substance and meaning to the Ile Maurice Durable national initiative.”
