Air Transport World has named Etihad Airways as the recipient of its Passenger Service Award for 2012.

Editors of the monthly airline industry magazine said the carrier has created an 'excellent' customer service product and maintains high standards across all cabins and classes.

Etihad was also recognised for the launch of its 'inspired service' concept, which rates the airline against five-star hotels and high-end restaurants rather than its competitors in the aviation industry.

Geoffrey Thomas, chief editor of Air Transport World, praised the company for developing a 'culture of excellence' that touches every aspect of its operations.

'What is remarkable is that the airline has not only maintained but improved its service level while growing at an extraordinary pace,' he added.

The award was welcomed by Etihad's president and chief executive officer James Hogan, who said the carrier will introduce new benchmarks and innovations in the near future to further improve its customer service.
