Those heading out on Cape Town holidays in the near future can rest assured that they have chosen an excellent vacation destination as South Africa has recently won many honors at the World Travel Awards.

The award ceremony, which was held in Johannesburg, saw Cape Town named “Africa’s Leading Destination,” according to Travel Daily News.

South Africa wasn’t done there however. South African Airways was named “Africa’s Leading Airline” while 1Time Airline won awards for being “Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Airline” and “Africa’s Leading Online Tour Operator.”

The awards kept piling up for South Africa, which will host the final of the FIFA World Cup this Sunday. The Hilton Durban was named “Africa’s Leading Business Hotel” and the Palazzo Montecasino in Johannesburg won the honor of “Africa’s Leading Casino Resort.”

Winning a World Travel Award is considered a very prestigious honor.

“Because of their global reach and reputation, World Travel Awards are unique and regularly referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of travel and tourism”, said Graham E. Cooke, the awards’ president and founder. “This means that consumers are increasingly using our portfolio of winners as a reliable and independent guide when booking their vacation.”

Clearly, South Africa is considered to be a top-notch tourist destination.
