Al Khozama Management Company, a leading luxury commercial property management, development and investment company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, dominated this year’s renowned World Travel Awards when the company earned international recognition in three separate categories – “Leading Personality of the Year”, “Makkah’s Leading Hotel 2010” and “Middle East’s Leading Architectural Concept 2010.”

HH Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Khalid, Chairman of AKMC and Guest of Honour at the glittering World Travel Awards evening held in Dubai this month, was named “Leading Personality of the Year”, in recognition of the pivotal role he continues to play in the ongoing growth and development of hospitality and tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region.

He has been instrumental in raising standards in education in the Kingdom, both in general and with regards to tourism, and most recently has led the assigned Consultancy Committee within the Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, to study and recommend hotel classification and pricing guidelines for incorporation by more than 1,100 hotels in the Kingdom.

Earning the prestigious World Travel Awards accolade of “Makkah’s Leading Hotel 2010”, the five-star AKMC-Al Shohada Hotel in the holy city was recognised for setting a new benchmark in hospitality service standards, luxurious accommodation and attention to detail throughout the hotel. The AKMC managed property, which is owned by Mubarrat Shohada Al Haram Al Makki Al Shareef, underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment programme of its 494 luxury rooms and suites two years ago, and is the only hotel in Makkah to provide a 24-hour personal butler service.

The third World Travel Award won by AKMC was for “Middle East’s Leading Architectural Concept”, for the iconic The Globe restaurant situated atop the prestigious Al Faisaliah Tower in the capital city. A masterpiece in design, the three-storey geodesic dome created by the legendary architect Lord Norman Foster, has become a tourist destination that attracts thousands of visitors every year and offers them an unrivalled panoramic view of the city skyline. In addition to the award-winning The Globe restaurant, the dome also includes The Experience, an open-air observation deck, and the Asir Lounge, an exclusive cigar lounge that is the only one of its kind in the Kingdom.

Speaking on behalf of AKMC following the award ceremony, Musaed Al Said, Chief Executive Officer of AKMC said: “The standards of excellence achieved by AKMC and recognised by the World Travel Awards this year are, without doubt, thanks to the vision of King Faisal Foundation headed by HRH Prince Khalid Al Faisal and to the leadership of our chairman HH Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Khalid. While these awards are a great honour for every member of the AKMC organisation, they also spur us on to achieve even greater levels of quality and service in all areas of our business.”

The World Travel Awards are the internationally recognised marks of excellence for the travel and tourism industry. Now in its 17th year, the awards are regarded as the “Oscars” of the industry, with nominations received from thousands of travel professionals around the world.

AKMC has been largely responsible for redefining luxury Arabian hospitality in the Kingdom. It is the only company in the hospitality sector to hold such assets of quality within a wide-ranging portfolio – from leisure resorts and business hotels to those in religiously significant locations of Makkah and Madinah Al Munawarra.
Since 1995 AKMC has been the trendsetter in the development and management of luxurious commercial properties in key locations across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East.

Combining smart investment in prime properties, outstanding vision for tomorrow’s trends and an innovative approach to management, AKMC is consistently establishing the benchmark in both operational and aesthetic standards.
