World Travel Awards Takes Place in Dubai

On May 5, 2009, the World Travel Awards will be making its way to The Monarch in Dubai. More than 500 travel and tourism brands in just the Middle East have already been nominated for awards. The World Travel Awards is known in many places as the the ‘Oscars’ of the travel marketplace.

This year’s World Travel Awards is one of the most important that has taken place in a long time. Many of the leading travel companies will be competing for awards and showing which companies can stand tall during the global downturn.

One of the main categories to watch this year will be the “Middle East Leading Airline.” Some of the airlines that are in the running this year are Emirates, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways. The Middle East is hoping for a big year and to win many awards. This could possibly help open the door to other strategic moves for many airlines and their clients. Also, the World Travel Awards being hosted in Dubai is a very positive opportunity for that region.

The winners are chosen by votes that are received from agents, as well as travel professionals, from all over the world. The World Travel Awards has been running for 16 years now. It encourages the travel and tourism industry to strive for better quality and to create a better experience for the traveler altogether.

Dubai will be kicking off the World Travel Grand Tour for 2009, but other places will follow as well. Other events include the Africa Ceremony in Durban, South Africa and the Europe Ceremony in Obidos, Portugal.
