Colombia established itself as a leading gastronomy destination in 2020

This year was encouraging for Colombian gastronomy, after it was recognized by the World Travel Awards, known as the ‘Oscar of Tourism’, as a Leading Culinary Destination. According to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the country was deserving of this trophy, the award reaffirms the culinary diversity of the country, which, according to the ministry, has established itself as a gastronomic destination.
“The award confirms this category as a world benchmark for the diversity of products, culinary traditions, enterprises related to this activity and the attractiveness of destinations. Colombian gastronomy is associated with the plurality of its regions, which allows establishing an identity in this activity and at the same time a commitment to it. ”, Stated the Tourism portfolio.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, the country obtained this recognition thanks to the multiple denominations of origin that Colombia has in gastronomic products, that is, those that are declared as their own or indigenous to a region, in addition to the cultural traditions related to their production, which make them different products from those of other geographical locations.
Among the products highlighted by the ministry, is lto Cholupa, a native fruit of the department of Huila, belonging to the Passiflora maliformis family, also known as stone granadilla or stone granadilla.
