Cancun Center wins the “World Travel Awards North & Central America” as the Best Convention Center of Mexico and Central America

On Saturday, September 6, the World Travel Awards North & Central America named the Cancun Center, Conventions & Exhibitions, as the best convention center of Mexico and Central America, as a result of the direct vote of thousands of travel professionals and specialists from all over the world.

The “World Travel Awards” were established 15 years ago to acknowledge the best of the travel industry. This is such a prestigious distinction that The Wall Street Journal has described it as “The Oscars of the Travel Industry”. The headquarters of the organization are in London and conduct six events annually in different places worldwide: Europe, South America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, apart from the abovementioned awards given out this year in Orlando, Florida. The event received wide media coverage, including the BBC London.

The Mexican delegation, headed by Javier Gámez, CEO of the Cancun Center, and Vicky Marmolejo, Commercial Director attended the event. It is important to mention the presence of Gastón Ramos, General Director of the Congresses and Conventions Office for The Mexico Tourism Board, as a special guest of the Cancun Center to celebrate this great event.

At an interview upon receiving the award, executives of the Cancun Center stated that they were representing 35 companies allied with the City Wide Events Program Cancun, with whom they have formed a strong working relationship, with enough vision to invest valuable resources in promoting the great attractions and advantages offered by the destination, thus positioning it as a great host city of world class congresses.

Also, they underlined the work of the investors that had the vision and commitment to risk their capital in this business as well as the labour of the suppliers who fulfilled their work as the first link, the professional organizers of congresses, meeting planners and the clients, who trusted them to conduct their events with them. They also thanked their colleagues who are responsible for the quality service provided on a daily basis, allowing them to host memorable and successful events.

Among other achievements, The Cancun Center is in first place among venues hosting international congresses registered by the ICCA (International Congress & Convention Association) during 2006 and 2007 in México, Central and South America, and already has the largest number of confirmed congresses between 2009 and 2014.

Despite the fact that the Cancun Center is not a specialized exhibition site nor is Cancun’s economic potential equal to that of large capitals, it has conducted over 20 specialized exhibitions including the following: Expo Hotel, Meeting Place Caribbean, Cancun Travel Mart, Deconarq Expo Construcción, Mercado Inmobiliario Turísico; and soon some other international shows such as Expo Franchising Latin America, World Art Vision, ISSA Interclean Latin America and Luxury Travel Expo will take place. The service and commitment to success have been the differentiators allowing the Cancun Center to be competitive in the field of business specialized exhibitions.

Its model, a business net with companies and professional event organizers, has and will continue to bear fruits as a source of foreign currency for our Country, but will also continue offering a quality space to celebrate the most important national congresses and events
Today, the projects of the Cancun Center are many, but always with one priority: to continue being an extension of each of the organizing committees that put their trust in this site, and to achieve a successful celebration of what they consider to be the most important event.

Cordially,
The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau
