World Travel Awards winners triumph in Lima, Peru

Mexico, Peru and Ecuador were among the big names to emerge victorious during the World Travel Awards South & Central America Gala Ceremony 2013, held at the Huacca Pucllana Temple, Lima on July 20th July 2013.

The industry elite, including chief executives of leading travel companies, government ministers and tourism board chiefs from across the continent attended the magnificent gala event.

World Travel Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating those brands which are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service.

Quito, Ecuador was one of the shining stars on the night, capturing the title of South America’s Leading Destination, while other winners from across the region saw South America’s Leading New Hotel go to Hilton Miraflores Lima, while South America’s Leading Business Hotel went to Swissotel Lima.

South America’s Leading Hotel Suite went to the Penthouse Suites at the Copacabana Hotel. Mexico & Central America’s Leading Family Resort went to Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa Mexico while South America’s Leading Cruise Line was awarded to Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Awards also went to Marriott for South America's Leading Hotel Brand and Mexico & Central America's Leading Hotel Brand and JW Marriott Hotel Lima won South America's Leading Hotel.

Peru continued its rise to tourism stardom, taking home top honours for South America’s Leading Airport, awarded to Jorge Chavez International Airport, and South America’s Leading Culinary Destination.

Officials at PromPeru will also be celebrating tonight, with World Travel Awards presenting them with the title of South America’s Leading Tourist Board.

Ritz Carlton Santiago took the award for Chile’s Leading Hotel, Venezuela’s Leading Resort went to Laguna Mar Hotel Resort & Spa, and Charming Luxury Lodge & Private Spa were double winners having been voted South America’s Most Romantic Resort and Argentina’s Leading Spa Resort.

About Huaca Pucllana temple

Huaca – In ancient Peru, a “huaca” was the term granted to a river, a tree or a mountain attributed with magical powers if the spot was inhabited by a deity or an ancestor; along the coast the term was given to stepped pyramid-shaped temples. This complex was a ceremonial and administrative centre run by the Lima culture (400 AD), which controlled the Lima Valley. The Huaca Pucllana features an on-site museum and areas of research, conservation and restoration, and cultural promotion. The museum is working to integrate the site into the community starting with schoolchildren, in a bid to create awareness of the importance of Peru's archaeological and natural heritage. It has been successfully integrated into the urban modernity of the City as an archaeological site that can be visited every day.

Ganadores del World Travel Awards triunfan en Lima, Peru

México, Perú y Ecuador, entre otros, resultaron victoriosos en la ceremonia para Centro y Sudamerica del World Travel Awards 2013, realizada en la Templo Huaca Pucllana, Lima el 20 de Julio del 2013.

La élite de la industria, incluidos CEOs y Vice Presidentes de compañías de viaje líderes, Ministros de Estado y Jefes de Oficinas de Turismo del continente, asistieron al magnifico evento de Gala aclamado como el “Oscar de la industria de viajes”. Los World Travel Awards celebran su 20 Aniversario este año y son reconocidos mundialmente como el más importante galardón que celebra aquellas marcas que están superando las fronteras de la excelencia en la industria a nivel de productos y servicios.

Quito, Ecuador fue una de las estrellas de la noche, obteniendo el premio de Mejor Destino de Sudamérica, mientras que otros ganadores de la región vieron cómo el premio de Mejor Hotel de Sudamérica fue para el Hilton Miraflores Lima, Perú y el premio a Mejor Hotel de Negocios al Swissotel, también de Lima. La audiencia se puso de pie al ver como Perú se llevaba a casa los honores por Mejor Aeropuerto, otorgado al Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez; el premio de Mejor destino Culinario de Sudamérica-Perú y el de Mejor Oficina de Turismo de Sudamérica, con PromPerú. El Ritz Carlton Santiago se llevó el premio a Mejor Hotel de Chile, Laguna Mar Hotel Resort& Spa fue elegido como el mejor hotel de Venezuela, y el Charming Luxury Lodge Y Private Spa fue doblemente galardonado como el Más Romántico Resort de Sudamérica y como el Mejor Spa Resort de Argentina.
