AquaCity
AquaCity is a virtually self-powered resort, which offers warm, geothermal swimming pools, a spa centre, two award winning hotels, gyms, a restaurant and bars and facilities for events for up to 350 guests.
By developing advanced environmental technology it avoids the damage done by thousands of tons of CO2 a resort of its size would expect to produce in a year. Its ancient lake is the geothermal power source, saving hundreds of thousands of pounds a year in energy costs. AquaCity has harnessed solar and wind power, making it the world's first energy self-sufficient resort.
By using geothermal water and the suns energy, it saves around 27 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere each day, compared with a resort burning conventional fossil fuels. It offers a distinctive combination of affordable, green luxury.
AquaCity is a pioneer of 'sustainable development' and a beacon for Green Tourism. For these reasons, 2008 sees World Travel Awards partner with the resort, where the first ever World Travel Awards Green Ceremony will be hosted on 20th September.
