Lankan hotel shortlisted among leading hotels

‘The Fortress,’ located in the southern part of the country has become the only Sri Lankan hotel to be shortlisted among a list of eleven hotels in the Indian Ocean region to be nominated for the World Travel Awards 2009.

The luxury resort in Koggala, will be in the running for the title of ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Hotel,’ competing with ten other top class hotels in the region. The awards are described by the respected International Herald Tribune as the ‘Oscars’ of the global travel and tourism industry.

Nearly 200 Indian Ocean travel companies, destinations, hotels, resorts and airlines have been nominated in the prestigious World Travel Awards 2009, scheduled to take place at the five-star Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott hotel in London on 8 November, again just before World Travel Market.

The full list of hotels shortlisted are Banyan Tree, Seychelles; Belle Mare Plage Resort, Mauritius; Château de Feuilles, Seychelles; Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Legends, Maldives; One & Only Le Saint Geran, Mauritius; Royal Palm, Mauritius; Soneva Gili, Maldives; Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives; The Fortress, Sri Lanka and The Oberoi, Mauritius.
